where were you when they built a ladder to sword heaven?

Holy crap this band is insane.  Hailing from Columbus, Ohio, Sword Heaven is a noise outfit that specializes in producing large tapestries of noise filled with holes created by titanic drum blasts.  If that doesn’t sound awesome, then I don’t know what does.

Granted, the only track I’ve heard from them is the killer “Dust Pneumonia Blues” up for streaming on their Myspace page, but it totally shredded my face.  And then it proceeded to shred my face three more times that day.  This song sounds like a fifty foot tall robot having a panic attack.  Jagged shards of vicious sound tear their way through the speakers like a nicely sharpened scimitar.  Drums slowly pound away at your skull until nothing remains but mush.  Somewhere in the middle of all this, there are some heavily distorted wails that manage to seep through.

Oh yes, this is brutal noise, but brutal noise that you can show off to the friends and family.  Okay maybe not, but it’s still pretty accessible for noise.  Fans of stuff like early Swans and Merzbow’s Aqua Necromancer will find a lot to like here.

Over at the Apop Records site you can buy Sword Heaven’s 3″ CD-R which comes sealed in a petri dish with artwork/dye/polyethylene glycol mixture.  That is awesome.
